A song I’ve known for a while now has recently touched my life in new ways. Especially in light of the gratitude list that I have been compiling for months. Breaking out each verse will be the inspiration for the next few weeks (at least that’s the plan) while sharing how the Lord is using these wonderful words to inspire, encourage and strengthen my heart.

Helping me see Him. At the very least seeing dimly through His eyes.
Gratitude by Nichole Nordeman
Send some rain, would You send some rain?
‘Cause the earth is dry and needs to drink again
And the sun is high and we are sinking in the shade
Would You send a cloud, thunder long and loud?
Let the sky grow black and send some mercy down
Surely You can see that we are thirsty and afraid
But maybe not
not today
Maybe You’ll provide in other ways
And if that’s the case . . .
We’ll give thanks to You
With gratitude
For lessons learned in how to thirst for You
How to bless the very sun that warms our face
If You never send us rain
We ask, we plead, we are grateful…but what if?
What if the answer is not what we want it to be?
What if we are hot and thirsty asking for rain and He says…
not today?
This past week our family has stepped out in faith, into the unk
nown, yet again. We are facing our biggest fear…and wondering…what if He doesn’t send the rain? What if He doesn’t give us this child? A child that would be loved…desperately wanted. A child.
I have not written–not in detail–about a loss that we faced in the recent past. There are days when it still hurts enough that I literally need to repeat to my heart these words:
He loves me and He is sovereign over all things.
Here we stand again on that very same precipice. Teetering on the brink. In a place where we have to jump off, with our hearts full of hope, trusting that no matter where we land…
He will catch us.
He will teach us to see.
He will hold our hearts in His trustworthy hands.
He may send the rain, but then He may not. Either way, He wants our hearts to be grateful.
To trust Him.
To find His gift in it all.
To see differently…
through His eyes.
And that is the purpose for compiling a gratitude list.
Quiet snowy days
Joy filled hearts around the piano
Slow mornings with extra time to snuggle under the covers
Homemade hot chocolate
A cold day to make applesauce
Jars and jars of God’s provision
Family that supports our love for children
Our children – amazing gifts from God

Precious moments as a family centered around the Word
Beautiful, simple prayers offered up in child-like faith
A woman who has chosen to give her child life
Gifts given in support
A friend’s encouraging phone call
A reminder of God’s working in the past
For this we give thanks.
