Tea Parties

When Little Miss had her first birthday we decided to give gifts to our children that have some meaning and purpose. Family and friends, we figured, would give clothing and toys. So our gifts would include a hardback classic book, a tea cup, one collectible type item and one homemade item for her hope chest.

My Grandmother was born in Ireland and lived there until she was 14. She and my mother loved tea and I grew up watching them both drinking tea and reading Scripture at the table. My mother’s tea cups hold such beautiful memories for me of her hospitality and the joy we shared around a cup of tea. Of course, my mother didn’t have tea parties, per se, but her tea cups came out every time she had company, they were a treasure. We had company all the time growing up. My mother is a wonderful hostess.

Tea cups are treasured around our home also and Little Miss loves hers. She and I have been having tea parties since she was 12-13 months old and by age 2 she could be trusted with my most precious tea sets. I love having tea time with her each day, well, we try to have tea each day.

Here’s a little glimpse into the life of tea parties in our home. We took a break the other day to have a special tea party with a set she has never used yet.

Abigail almost always joins us for tea. Here she is dressed up in a combination of outfits, including Little Miss’ hair band in blue.

We purchased this set from Vision Forum when she was 2. We had wanted to get it for her first birthday, but we couldn’t afford it that year since we had just made a major move. Isn’t it beautiful! She was so excited that I pulled it out instead of our “normal” tea cups.
