Lent Garden

Lent ~ Day Seven

I first saw a Lenten Garden more than three years ago.

I liked the idea so much that I spent a good chunk of time checking out other people's ideas and trying to learn about them.

Often these gardens are created for folks to walk into and sit and reflect on Christ's work on the cross during Lent.

Since we faced a move last year, it didn't make a lot of sense to create one out-of-doors.

Although, I love that idea and maybe will be able to stay where we are on the family property to do it next year.

Anyway, we headed off to the local nursery and Little Miss and I gathered up a few fun plants.

We had a couple of beautiful cacti.

But this Mama getting a whole bunch of prickles in her hand trying to get them home.

So, we decided that it wasn't a good idea to have them in a garden with little children's hands near by.

We returned them and got a couple more succulents.

Really, any little plants will do, since we live in a more arid climate and I tend to kill most plants; these will do nicely.

Sadly, I grew up in the florist and greenhouse business…but can't seem to keep things alive out here…well, certain kinds of plants, ivy, roses, etc.

I digress.

We built ours over the weekend and had a lot of fun with it.

I found this rock in the stream that ran along the bike path in our old neighborhood.

It was perfect, until we tried to drill a hole in it for a cave. It cracked. But we were able to chip edges off of it.

In the end we traipsed for a couple more, but I loved this one so much I decided to keep it.

We tried a couple different plants and ended up moving a couple of them.

This is our final set up.

When we get closer to Holy Week we'll actually use this in our family devotions.

In the meantime, it sits, waiting, prepared. The children are watching and waiting to see what will happen with it.

I'll write again sharing how we will use it.

But before then, another day this week, I'll share with you some of the other wonderful ideas I found along the way.

Blessings,

I wish I could remember to do this one year! I love the idea. Maybe next year??? Remind me early. :-)

We made ours during Lent last year. Once it has been made it doesn't do anything but sit since it is not used and changed until Holy Week, so there is time.
