Modesty For Our Girls
For quite some time, I didn’t want to put my daughter in dresses because I ran into a few problems with them. First, most of the ones for babies, toddlers and young girls are short (above the knee) and don’t always include pantalettes to cover the diaper or panties. Second, it was too cold in the winter for her to have bare legs. I personally don’t like stockings or tights, so I was not going to struggle to put them on her. Third, I was a “tomboy” growing up and loved to run, climb trees and keep up with my brothers, not something a young girl can do in a dress with underwear showing all over the place.
The solution: she didn’t wear dresses very often. Although we had been given so many adorable ones I just waited until spring and summer for her to wear them and even then she only wore them for special occasions. This still didn’t solve the problem of her legs and panties showing. I didn’t know what to do, I wanted to put her in these dresses, but believed that it is important to begin to instill a modesty mindset in girls even at a young age. This was something my father was concerned about teaching me as a young girl and something not many people think about anymore.
Then I decided to make a Christmas dress for her, one, that matched my own dress. Since they were period dresses, I made a pair of pantaloons to be worn with hers. I loved them so much that I made many more pairs for her and she now wears them with dresses everyday. She can climb all over kingdom come (if you know her personally you know that she does just that) and not show off her legs and backside, as well as, having warm legs for the cooler days. I finally found a solution to the problem and I love them!
The interesting thing is people stop and ask where I got the pantaloons from, or they tell me they’re adorable. Out of the many conversations I’ve had with people several suggested that I sell them to other families that are interested in cute and modest clothing for their girls. They think it’s time to “bring them back into style.” If you are like me and want your girls to wear adorable dresses, but struggle with bare legs or difficulty in putting on tights, then pantaloons are the solution for you. They are comfortable, breathable, easy to put on and wear, and solve the major modesty problem.

About the Pantaloons
They are well constructed, with French seams for strength, as well as, neatness. They are designed to be worn to the ankle, they will show slightly when worn with long dresses and completely cover legs with short dresses. They have elastic waistbands for easy wear and each leg is trimmed with an eyelet lace; they are not elastic at the ankle.

A special thank you to Jennie Chancey at Sense & Sensibility Patterns. She is the inspiration behind these pantaloons.

[Mrs. C], these are beautiful… and your prices are so reasonable. I’ve seen pantaloons elsewhere that are priced out of our budget. I need to check with my husband before I order though
Christine – Thank you for your kind words. Price is always a struggle when someone is creating something to sell. I want them to be affordable, but not “give” them away. It’s a fine line, one I will probably always have a hard time with.
